Earthy Week

The week of April 16th is here at last. While it doesn't mean the dawn of seasonally scrumptious weather this year, it still gets to be the proud papa of Earth Week and all its glories.

What will I be doing for Earth Week this year? Glad you asked. Well for one thing I'll be looking forward to seeing more of these lil ladies out in the fields around Rutland County.

Sunflowers. Just, wow....

I've got a few things on my docket, but of most interest is the Bio-BQ I'm planning for this Friday (I stole the 'Bio-BQ' idea from the wonderful people at the Flower Power Co-op of Salem, Oregon. Shhhh...).

This extravaganza will entail what I see as a cornocopia of quality Earth Week gaiety. I'm mixing up some homemade vegan burgers; I've rounded up some local organic beef, local and organic fixins, and will be grilling on sustainably harvested, local charcoals from the Smokey House over in Danby, Vermont. I'll be pawning these suckers off in return for a 'suggested donation', so if you're in the area, by all means do come by. Proceeds from all of this will go towards the creation of the biofuels cooperative I'll be forming over the next few months.

On top of earthy food, there'll be some fitting music, good company, and some organic American Apparel t-shirts that I'm in the process of carving prints for. Hopefully that'll all come together in time. I'm confident it will, with a little help from my friends of course.

This should coincide nicely with the break in the weather, so anticipate some skateboards, unicycles, pogosticks, and djembes. It also dovetails most pleasantly with the contra dance that will be held on campus later that evening from 9-11pm. You all better be there! Robin's (my roommate) mom is going to be calling and I know no one wants to miss the crazy fun that will ensuredly ensue.

This Saturday also brings with it an Ultimate Tournament at Skidmore that I'm rarin' to go to, and then Sunday--Earthday Herself--concludes the week with a vegetable oil-powered trip down to see my friend at Susquehannah where a Bluegrass Festival will be waiting for me and a few good friends.

I heart Earth Week.
