Weekend and Such

This weekend was pretty fun-- my friend Phil came up for a bit, which was cool, as it as his first visit to GMC, and he's a big goof ball I haven't had the chance to see in a while. I think he enjoyed it immensely.

My roommate also left on Sunday on a class trip to Washington, D.C. to the Supreme Court House to overlook a case the class has been studying all semester. A rather unique experience. I was talking to someone about it today, and she said that the three days she went last year were the most intense three days of her college career. My roommate just takes the class every spring as it is always based around a new subject and she likes visiting D.C. I'm pretty interested in it myself.

The weekend weather, however, was ridiculous, and definitely led to a power outage this morning. My mother called me and said they canceled work for her because everything was flooding out (she's located in NH, so that means it was a big storm).

I also went to Rutland today, and boy, was I sad I forgot my camera. I lost count of the number of uprooted trees we passed by, and half of downtown still had NO power. What a scary, crazy thing. Though both of the stores I was aiming for were closed... it was well worth the trip. I managed to squeeze it in during the sunny (albeit windy) hours we had earlier...

but it's raining again. So oh well.

On another note, I started working on the teach-in I referenced in my earlier entries, as May 1st is approaching rather quickly. Sunday was mainly devoted towards making a stencil base for tshirts so that people can spray paint them on the spot and have something to commemorate the day (and our opinions) with. I may still work on the design a little, (I want there to be some stuff on the back, too, that says where, when, and what the teach-in is about, as War Is Not the Answer is simply the name of the teach-in, and does not necessarily emphasize the nuisances of the occasion)... but here's a picture of what I have so far:

It took a lot of effort to make my own stencils, and suddenly I have a lot more appreciation for art majors. OUCH. I don't know if my right thumb will ever recover from the odd scissor angles it had to tackle to get this phrase into thick cardboard.

But, anyhow, more artsy fun is planned for Wednesday from 1-5pm in the CALF lounge, most likely, as it'll probably still be muddy by then. Everyone's welcome to come down and work on something if they'd like to support the Anti-Imperialism/War cause. More details about banner designs and such will be given on Wed., so if you're interested, be there! I still have a LOT of shopping, sewing, and maybe even stencil work to do before then, but I'm pretty pumped about it, as I love communal artwork. It's probably my favorite thing to do, as I'm not a great artist, but I'm good at doing abstract designs that are easily flourished by others, and some crazy pictures have been produced in the past. I actually had two planned communal art days last semester, at which I had a big white piece of paper taped to the wall and asked everyone I knew to draw something on it. Some pretty cool things were made. I also had a third one back at home during which my friends and I designed a rather drab white closet door for another friend. :) And my parents always said drawing on the walls was bad.

Well, I'm out for the night to go sign up for my room next year.

Peace.
