I spent a good amount of words chatting up how grand Earth Week and its little treasures were going to be. Now that it has come and gone, it just feels darn appropriate to validate my hypotheses.
Certainly we all remember that BIObque that I was going to be putting on. Well, it actually came together! Imagine that. I actually turned a profit with my localvore barbque. Those dollars equal one more step towards Poultney having it's very own biofuel cooperative. Thank you to everyone who came out to support me in this--and to those that came after all the goodness was gobbled up, sorry. Next year I'm going to do it bigger and better than ever. I'll be expecting everyone to bring up their grandparents and second cousins for the big day. Don't let me down.
Everyone else's events looked like they came together in a most terrific way. Mr. Jesse Pyles, our resident Sustainability Coordinator is much to thanks for that. It was nice that everyone's energies consolidated into outdoor displays in the same general area. All that positivity and beautiful weather made for a festive atmosphere that just about bellowed "Hey it's Earth Week...and Friday!"
Here's a shot of how the collective scene went down.

There should be a more in depth break down of the day's activities in the next issue of the Mountaineer, but rest assured there was live music, educational tables, and human beings.

'My' biodiesel poster (thank you Garrison and Sue) was kept out of harm's way thanks to this accomodating tree.
My analysis has led me to the conclusion that Green Mountain's Earth Week achieved 'grand' status. In the spirit of the scientific method, I welcome all of the scientific community to replicate my experiment and determine for themselves the validity of my findings. I'd feel a lot more conficent in my results if every campus across the country put on Earth Week events for themselves and gauged for themselves whether or not grandness can be acheived. Keep me posted!
