Men's soccer coach Ray Campanile, economics professor Paul Hancock,
and Student Life Director Bryan McGrath (seen R to L) were among the
ballers bringing the ruckus on this night of all nights.
Each Spring since I have arrived here has brought with it--along with the bevy of beauty otherwise characterized by Nature in flux--the Staff-Faculty basketball game organized by SAAC (Student Athletic Advisory Committee).
The game functions as a fundraiser for SAAC, but it tends to accomplish something more. It's been one of the most well-attended events that takes place on campus, which is brilliant since it's one of the best venues for bringing together people from divergent parts of our community.

Whether as ballers on the same team or smiley-faced competitors, it's great to see everyone being so gosh darn chummy. And the play t'aint bad neither. For being a motley crew ranging from our twenty-some year old admissions team to our...um...more 'well-seasoned' faculty members, the court was perpetually litterd with jukes, J's, and 360 tomahawk jams. Ridiculous. Whether it's the professional oversight of the student coaching staff, the pressure of hundreds of gawking eyes, or the sheer glory of this 4,000 year old (give or take)passtime, the faculty and staff made the hour of play count.
If you haven't had the chance to catch one of Hancock's patent finger rolls from the top of the key, you're probably a pretty lame person. But that's okay. A shot at redemption comes each Spring in the form of mad hot shots basketball and an embracing community.
