So we had my older sister Stephanie's graduation party last night. It basically amounted to a large number of relatives discussing the recent events in their lives (as we hardly get to see each other these days with all of our busy schedules) and a group of Steph's old friends that are still in the area/ are in the area currently stuffing their faces with food and catching up with one another.
It was rather fun considering I haven't seen this group of people in a while-- a couple years ago, we would have a bonfire at my house every couple of weeks during the summer, and friends (mostly my older sister's) would come over and relax. I ended up getting pretty close with a lot of them because they came over so much, and many of them looked on me as if I was their younger sister. Usually a couple of them would bring instruments (they had a band going for a while), and they'd play live music late into the night until either a) we got reported by the neighbors (this happened once. It was hilarious. My sister's friend Jon asked my father if he could play one last song at midnight, which just happened to be the Star Spangled Banner. Half way through it, the police officer showed up. Needless to say, my father gave him a hard time because, after all, it was the national anthem!) or b) our fire permit expires. So yeah. It was pretty nice to see everybody again and hang out like the good old days.
My sister also invited some of her older friends-- like Chuck and Nancy. Chuck happens to be the main boss at the pool my sister and I work out at, and Nancy is his wife, who also happens to be someone my mom knows, too. Their invite indicates two major things: 1) he's incredibly amiable! and 2) my sister is too. It's actually been nice getting to know him better, considering he holds my wages and my summer tuition savings plan in his hands. (Oh yeah. And donuts, too. He always brings us donuts when we work the morning shifts!)
As Chuck and I were chatting last night, I discovered something quite exciting (yet disconcerting at the same time. We'll get to this later). He used to work for a company that worked with the CIA! As in, he used to have three telephones in his office-- one any secretary could pick up, the other only one secretary was legally allowed to pick up because of confidentiality reasons, and the other only he could pick up-- and if someone else picked it up, all they would hear was some encoded message, as Chuck had a password he would type into the phone in order for the message to be decoded. That's crazy. So as we were talking about his connections, he started talking about the different schemes he's pulled on his friends using his connections. As in, he once called a cop in Hampton Beach and asked him to be on the look out for my older sister because Chuck knew she was headed in that direction. The cop proceeded to find her and hassle her-- just because. At first my sister was confused and angry, but then the cop quickly informed her that it was all Chuck's idea and they both had a good laugh about it. I personally thought this was a terrifying thought, and evidently showed this on my face. Chuck grinned at my discomfort and immediately assured me that my time would come, and sometime before the end of the summer. Oh dear.
What a wild sense of humor, Chuck has. I wonder if I'll ever get to the point where I'm looking for ways to cause a little harmless trouble and a lot of laughter...
Haha. When it happens, I'll report it to all of you. Until next time,
Peace.
