And the sickness begins...
So. Try living in a place with 700 some odd other people WITHOUT catching something from someone at least once a semester.
Especially if the someone who gets sick is not only your roommate's boyfriend, but a good friend of yours, too.
Yeah. I guess that would do it.
That and the fact that I normally get sick right around Thanksgiving. I'm kind of glad that it happened before said holiday this year, though, since it is honestly one of my favorite holidays. Just think about it: it's a holiday devoted to being thankful for everything you have!!! Plus, can it get any better than chatting with family members you haven't seen in a while, playing touch football in grandma's back field, eating a bunch of delicious homemade food, and then spending the rest of the day in and out of sleep as the parade and/or game on tv stretches on and on and on? Especially now that my parents are grandparents. It's just cute. My nephew's first Thanksgiving! The pictures will be ADORABLE. I promise. (Nevermind Christmas. Goodness. What am I going to get him???)
All that aside, I've got the promised haikus. This entire experience has made me realize just how much fun they really can be. Back in high school, there was this student in my drama program who made haikus constantly. He was the Haiku KING. I always sort of shook my head at him, but you know, it really does brighten up the day. So here we go.
We'll begin with the beginning:
This particular haiku was written when I first woke up. It was at this time that I determined I was going to spend the day writing haikus.
Rainy autumn morn,
I hate thee like the black plague.
Back to sleep soon, please?
And then of course, the one I wrote at breakfast. Time: 7:45 am.
I adore coffee;
It is my life force, hands down.
Without it, I drool.
And then, off to calculus class! And a rather abstract word problem that I failed to understand. Here we go.
The nature of spheres.
I missed something in high school.
Shoot me now, please.
And yet another calculus composition:
Oh calculus class,
the bane of my existence...
derivatives SUCK.
(I think we're beginning to understand why I am an English education major... hahaha. Believe it or not, there was a point and time in my life when I was CONVINCED I was going to be a mathematician. Life. How it goes...)
And then, I was a bit sleepy. So I took a quick nap in between classes and had a rather odd dream about one of my friends here on campus. We were in some sort of video game? And my friend had to compete against this professional dancer to save the life of one of our other friends. Weird.
Alex Insler, DANCE!
Her life relies on your skills!
You must astound them!
That is definitely one of my favorites.
And then off to Buddhism in literature class, where we watched a movie about Bodh Gaya, the spot where Shakyamuni Buddha found enlightenment. Our teacher said that she chose that particular day because it was rainy and drab, and she figured people would be a little sleepy, hence the ending of the haiku.
Bodh Gaya Buddha,
the students love your movie,
on lazy Tuesdays.
And then I had a moment of revelation, where I created two haikus that followed one another in theme! huzzah!
Some of us do not
understand the beauty of life:
we are blind to joy.
Buddhists know the real
simplicity of all these
intangible truths.
(I especially enjoy the last one because it has a play on words. Oh goodness. Goofy English majors).
And a final follow up:
My dearest bluebird:
Please keep singing for the world-
your voice calms my soul.
The rest of the day was spent at the workstudy, so I was a little involved in fixing websites rather than creating haikus. But I feel this is a good collection to begin with.
Well, until next time.
